Kalinga Utkal Express Derailment: At Least 24 Dead, 156 Injured

MUZAFFARNAGAR, INDIA - AUGUST 20: Coaches of the Kalinga Utkal Express train after it derailed in Khatauli, on August 20, 2017 in Muzaffarnagar, India. The Kalinga Utkal Express was on its way from Puri in Odisha to Haridwar in Uttarakhand when 14 coaches derailed at Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Authorities registered a criminal complaint on Sunday against unknown people for mischief and causing deaths by negligence and began a probe into Saturdays train accident in Uttar Pradesh amid varying casualty figures. Uttar Pradesh officials put the death toll at 24 and announced an end to rescue work. At least 156 people were injured, they said.
